We’ve got time for one more quick DIY before Christmas is finally here! And there’s nothing better to wear to those last few parties than a Christmas flower crown! Eventually someone is going to figure out just why flower crowns are so much fun because it is undeniable! This crown is easy and quick to make, and you’ll feel like a Sugar Plum Fairy when you wear it!
- 18″ Floral Wire
- 30″ of Ribbon
- Wired Floral Garland (This one is from Michael’s, but every craft store has them this time of year. Just make sure each of the floral off shoots from the main garland have wire in them.)
Bend your floral wire piece into 3/4ths of a circle snap. An easy way to do this is to bend it around your head where you plan on wearing the crown. Once you’ve got it rounded, you need to curve the ends back on themselves. Leave just a little space between the wire fold so you can add your ribbon later. Easy, right?
Now to get to business! Cut off the floral off shoots from your flower garland. It doesn’t really matter if you’re cutting off only the lushest blooms because almost everything is usable here. The most important part is that you’ve got an inch or two of wire on each piece you’re cutting.
This is because to attach your flowers to your crown you will wrap each cut piece around your floral wire. You don’t need hot glue or super glue or thread. Start by wrapping your first piece around your crown. Then, overlap your second piece on the first and wrap in the same direction. Keep wrapping and overlapping until you’ve covered the entire floral wire.
Finally, we’ve got to find a way to get this Christmas flower crown on your head! Cut your 30″ piece of ribbon in half. Your ribbon pieces can be longer if you’d like to add a long bow tail to your crown.
Slip one end of a ribbon piece through the curved end of your floral wire. Add a drop of glue to the ribbon end and glue it to the back of itself. There’s a great picture below to show you what I mean. You’re simply securing your ribbon to your crown. Once you’ve done it on one side, repeat it on the next side. Then let the glue dry.
To wear your flower crown arrange the crown on your head where you like it and tie the ribbons together to hold it in place!
You’re all ready for prancing out to your Christmas party with your fabulous Christmas flower crown! I’ve got to be honest. I’ve been wearing mine while I work at my computer just so I feel a little extra bit festive….
